I sat in the window

I sat in the window
and watched as the world came alive.
First, it was only a few cars
rolling down the street,
their headlights piercing the dark
illuminating their way
to a destination only known to them.
As the daylight approached
and the sun rose higher,
the volume of cars also rose,
and when the day had broken
and all was bright,
the passing cars dwindled
to one only now and then.
The streets seemed to be naked.
In the brightness of the sun.

I sat in the window
and watched as the world came alive.
First, it was only a few runners,
who ran down the street,
Or a lone person with their dog,
the streetlights illuminating,
the path they followed
to a destination known only to them.
As daylight approached and the sun rose, higher
the numbers of runners and the dog walkers also rose
and when the day had broken,
and all was bright.
The passing runners and dog walkers
also dwindled to one only now and then
the streets seemed to be naked.
In the brightness of the sun.

I sat in the window
and watched as the world came alive.
First, it was only a few words,
who ran across the screen,
the cursor lighting
the path they followed,
to a destination known only to them.
As daylight approached and the sun rose, higher
the number of words also rose
and when the day had broken,
and all was bright.
The passing words
also dwindled to one only now and then
the screen seemed to be naked.
In the brightness of the sun.

Then I stood and removed myself
from the window and from
the sight of the world.
And I too seemed to disappear
in the brightness of the sun.
